Aged-care experts gather for conference

Aged-care experts and advocates are to gather on Monday for an inaugural conference to discuss the federal government's 10-year reform plan.

More than 1000 delegates and aged-care experts are to convene in Adelaide to discuss healthcare policy and reform for Australia's ageing population.

Starting on Monday, the inaugural two-day National Aged Care Conference is to showcase and discuss the federal government's Living Longer Living Better aged-care reform package, unveiled in April.

The 10-year package, which came into effect last month, will allow older Australians to receive care in their own homes for longer.

The government will spend $3.7 billion over five years to increase in-home care options, provide more support for dementia sufferers and attract more workers to the sector, which will need to cater to more than 3.5 million seniors by 2050.

More than 1000 delegates are scheduled to attend the conference to hear leading aged-care experts and advocates discuss the key elements of the government's package, Ageing Minister Mark Butler said.

"This conference will explore important areas of the aged-care reform package and the sector will share innovative practices relating to the key themes of the reforms: access, choice and control, quality and wellness," Mr Butler said in a statement.

The conference will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre and will be streamed live online.
