The Navy has intercepted another asylum seeker boat with more than 30 people believed to be on board.

Patrol boat HMAS Broome, operating under the control of Border Protection Command, intercepted the suspected irregular entry vessel northeast of Ashmore Islands on Saturday morning.

Initial indications suggest there are 32 passengers on board.

Home Affairs Minister Jason Clare said Border Protection Command would now make arrangements for the passengers to be transferred to Christmas Island to undergo initial security, health and identity checks and to establish their reasons for travel.
