No courthouses to close in Qld: govt

The Queensland government has confirmed that no courthouses will close as part of cost savings in the September state budget.

Queensland's attorney-general has promised no courthouses will close as part of the state government's cost-cutting drive.

There was speculation up to 30 courthouses would be closed but Premier Campbell Newman said the exact numbers would not be made public until the September budget.

However Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie said on Sunday that although he has been ordered to find savings in his portfolio, courthouses won't be targeted in the budget.

"We understand the important role courthouses play in providing a range of necessary services to local residents particularly in regional parts of the state," he said in a statement.

"We are committed to providing all Queenslanders with access to justice regardless of whether they live in the Brisbane CBD or the most remote areas of the state."
