Aussie to face court over US jet ski death

An Australian man has been charged over the death of a 16-year-old girl in a jet-ski incident in Hawaii.

An Australian man will face court on Tuesday after being charged over the death of a 16-year-old Californian girl in Hawaii.

The girl was killed in a jet ski accident.

Twenty-year-old Tyson Dagley from Queensland was charged on Thursday with negligent homicide over the incident, which happened last Sunday, August 5.

The Star Advertiser newspaper in Honolulu says the man's bail has been set at $US100,000 ($A94,930).

A Silicon Valley newspaper has identified the 16-year-old girl as Kristen Fonseca from Vacaville.

The Vacaville Reporter says the local teenager was riding a jet ski in Keehi Boat Harbor, which is authorised for personal watercraft.

It says witnesses reported a that Dagley, on another jet ski, ran into her ski and she was struck on the back of her head.

The paper reports Dagley was taken to hospital in serious condition.

Both riders were on Aloha Jet Ski tours and media reports in the US say the crash has reignited the debate over the safety of watercraft rentals in Hawaii.

If he is convicted, Dagley could spend up to a year in jail.
