A previously undiscovered system in the brain has been found to act like a series of pipes, using blood vessels to drain waste products.

The discovery shows that the brain is cleansing itself in a more organised way and on a much larger scale than has been realised previously.

The findings have implications for many conditions that involve the brain, such as traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, and Parkinson’s disease.
