DFAT looking into Thai nightclub fire

Australian officials are working to find out whether any Aussies are among those killed in a Thai nightclub fire.

The federal government is trying to find out whether any Australians were among those killed or injured in a nightclub fire on the popular Thai resort island of Phuket.

At least four people have been killed and another dozen injured in the fire that broke out on Friday morning at the Tiger disco in the town of Patong, a magnet for foreign tourists on the southern island.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) says it's saddened by the news.

"The Australian embassy in Bangkok and the Australian Honorary Consul in Phuket are urgently liaising with local authorities to determine whether any Australians are affected," a DFAT spokesperson said.

"Thai authorities are yet to advise us on the nationalities of those affected.

"We have not been advised that any Australians are involved."
