A Kurdish activist who fled Syria nearly two decades ago has made an emotional return to his homeland.  

A Kurdish activist who fled Syria nearly two decades ago has made an emotional return to his homeland. 

He re-unites with family and mourns the death of his mother, who's funeral he missed while in exile.

He has found the North East of Syria, subject to represssion under the Assad government, is now just a little bit freer - in large part due to the civil war. The BBC's Orla Guerin reports
