Up to 40 people are demonstrating at Fullerton Cove, north of Newcastle, against Dart Energy's approval to drill four CSG pilot wells.

Third-generation resident Julie Wood, a grandmother, and Lisa McDonald have chained themselves to a tractor.

Fullerton Cove Residents Action Group spokesman Lindsay Clout says the protesters are proud to have stopped work on the Hunter Valley site since Monday.

"If Dart had the courage to show their face at the blockade site they would better realise the strength and depth of community opposition to their coal seam gas drilling plans," he said in a statement.

"We'd be very happy to provide them with a long list of the local residents who are against it."

NSW Energy Minister Chris Hartcher on Wednesday urged the protesters to stop blockading the site, pointing out Dart Energy had received state and federal consent to proceed with exploratory drilling.

CSG Blockade at Fullerton Cove, NSW

Good on the protesters. They have every reason to be determined to stop the CSG mining. This reporting though does not tell the full story. No comments are offered by ministers of the Opposition especially Messrs. Steve Whan or Luke Foley. Every self-respecting Australian should stand up and be counted against aquifer water interference. When it comes to water no negative impact can be tolerated if we are to have quality of life especially quality food and drink.
