India beat Australia in U19 cricket final

India have defeated Australia by six wickets to win the ICC Under-19 cricket World Cup in Townsville.

A fine captain's knock from Will Bosisto was not enough to help Australia to a fourth ICC under-19 cricket World Cup, with India prevailing by six wickets in Townsville on Sunday.

Bosisto, named player of the tournament after the match, finished on 87 not out in Australia's 8-225 and was central to their recovery from a woeful start that left them 4-38.

The 18-year-old put on a 65-run partnership with Travis Head (37) before a 93-run partnership with Ashton Turner (43) to push Australia to a defendable total.

But he was also cruelly at the centre of the biggest moment of India's innings, dropping man-of-the-match Unmukt Chand with 49 runs remaining in the chase.

The Indian captain, then on 84, went on to blast two more sixes on his way to a match-winning 111 not out as India reached their winning total of 4-227 with 14 balls to spare thanks largely to Chand's 130-run partnership with Smit Patel (62 not out).

It was a spirited victory by India, who started their innings promisingly before collapsing to 4-97, and draws them level with Australia after collecting their third under-19 World Cup title.

Bosisto lamented his side's dropped catches but admitted India were the superior team on the day.

"I think we can be really satisfied with how we have gone (this tournament)," he said.

"It would have been nice to finish on a winning note obviously but look, India are a great side, I think they played better than us on the day and they deserved it.

"Maybe we didn't help ourselves out with a few dropped catches and things like that but that is cricket."

It is the first time Australia have lost a final in the tournament.
