Indian cricketer represents Australia for first time

For the first time, an Indian player has represented Australia in an international competition, and given the push to make cricket more multicultural it's likely he won't be the last.

For the first time, an Indian player has represented Australia in an international competition, and given the push to make cricket more multicultural it's likely he won't be the last.

Gurinder Sandhu is 19 and is from Sydney's west.

Cricket Australia has been pushing for more diversity in the game. Matt Dwyer from Cricket Australia believes having players of multicultural backgrounds will make that happen.

"We hope that someone with Gurinder's background would really show that there's a pathway that kids can actually follow to become an Australian representative in cricket and become an aspirational goal for them to really go on to higher honours," Mr Dwyer said.

Gurinder says the higher honour is playing for your country, and that is Australia.
