Bryce calls on community to protect kids

With more than 30,000 children being abused or neglected every year in Australia, child protection is everyone's business, says Quentin Bryce.

All members of the community must act to protect children from abuse and neglect, says Governor-General Quentin Bryce.

Her call comes at the launch on Sunday of National Child Protection Week.

With more than 30,000 children being abused or neglected every year in Australia, child protection is everyone's business, Ms Bryce says in a statement.

This year's theme, Play Your Part, encourages everyone, from young people and parents to families, friends, carers, teachers or journalists, policy-makers, communities and businesses to get involved in looking after children.

The initiative is being led by the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect, which aims at helping communities, governments, organisations and individuals to implement community-led initiatives and practices to enhance the safety and well being of children and young people.
