If US elections could be won by the heat generated on Twitter when candidates' wives take the stage, then Michelle Obama has secured her husband a second term in the White House.

If US elections could be won by the heat generated on Twitter when candidates’ wives take the stage, then Michelle Obama has secured her husband a second term in the White House.

The first lady proved her speech craft is as strong as her biceps during the Democratic National Convention held in North Carolina today.

Michelle Obama’s performance generated 28,003 tweets per minute (TPM) at its strongest point, according to official Twitter data.

It’s a sharp jump on Republican candidate Mitt Romney’s wife Ann, who generated just 6,195 tweets per minute – and that only when she was joined her husband on stage. (Numbers aren't everything, of course: Ann Romney's speech was generally warmly received by Twitter users and commentators).

Wearing pink and showing off her much-lauded shoulders, the US President's wife focused on family life, healthcare and education during her 25-minute speech.

The line that generated the most online buzz for Mrs Obama? "We've got so much more to do."
