Swan stays acting PM while Gillard mourns
Treasurer Wayne Swan says he will remain acting prime minister while Julia Gillard grieves the death of her father in Adelaide.
RELATED
Acting Prime Minister Wayne Swan is to continue in the role for a few more days while Julia Gillard heads to Adelaide following her father's death.
Ms Gillard is expected to arrive in Adelaide on Sunday after leaving the APEC summit in Russia prematurely to join her bereaved family, Mr Swan says.
"The prime minister is returning late this afternoon. She is going to spend some time with her family grieving, how long that will go on is I am unsure at this stage," Mr Swan told reporters in Brisbane.
Mr Swan said the prime minister and her father John Gillard, who died in Adelaide on Saturday, had a very close and very treasured father-daughter relationship.
