Australian researchers have created the world’s first quantum bit, which may lead to the creation of ultra-powerful computers in the future.

They’ve created a single atom - a quantum bit - in a silicon chip.

It’s the first building block for a revolutionary piece of hardware capable of processing information billions of times faster than today’s technology.

Ricardo Goncalves spoke to the people behind the discovery.

What will future sci-fi. look like.

When this thing gets going (like one 'bit' gets to talk to some other 'bits' all inside a convenient small package) the world will change like we today are to cavemen. IPad14 will be given to pre-school kids to chew on. It will be virtual reality everything. Humans will be able to live in a 6th dimension of their making. All those weird Arnie Swazt. movies may not be so sci-fi. But will it help to understand women!
