Ninth man charged over Sydney Islam riots
A 19-year-old man has been charged in connection with Sydney's violent riots over an anti-Islamic film.
A ninth man has been charged over violent riots in Sydney over an anti-Islamic video.
The 19-year-old was arrested at Belfield, in Sydney's southwest, shortly before 7pm (AEST) on Thursday.
He has been charged with affray and throwing a missile at police in Hyde Park on Saturday during a demonstration sparked by the film Innocence of Muslims, which mocks the Islamic faith.
He was taken to Campsie police station on Thursday and granted conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on 16 October.
Strike Force McAlister, formed to investigate the protests, has now arrested nine people and laid 16 charges including assaulting police, affray, rioting and throw projectiles.
Only Ahmed Elomar, a 29-year-old former champion boxer, has been denied bail of those arrested.
NSW Police are asking anyone with digital photographs, mobile phone footage or videos to upload the images to https://www1.police.nsw.gov.au/.
