The blame game continues as the campaign for constitutional recognition of Indigenous Australians stalls.

The Gillard Government yesterday flagged an act of parliament as an interim solution but the Opposition reiterated its stance today saying it would not support the so called "Act of Recognition".

"We might end up having the tragedy of a constitutional question being put to the people that fails. That would be a terrible set-back for reconciliation, and it should be the last thing anyone would want," Tony Abbott told members of the press today.

Despite early bipartisan support for constitutional recognition, continued disagreement from the parties on how to move forward has delayed its outcome.
