Sauber interested in signing Schumacher

Sauber has announced official interest in signing seven-time Formula One champion Michael Shumacher is he wants a drive in 2013.

Sauber chief executive Monisha Kaltenborn said on Monday the Swiss outfit is interested in signing German Michael Schumacher when his contract with Mercedes expires.

Schumacher, 43, is reportedly still undecided about his future after learning that he will be replaced by Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes in 2013.

"Of course it's nice to think of such a possibility, that we can ask ourselves if we can get a seven-time world champion when he is on the market," Kaltenborn told the sportsdaily Bild, adding: "Michael has until now been with just big stables which we can't compare ourselves to".

Team principal Peter Sauber has already said that he would "immediately" sign Schumacher if he were available.
