A Northern territory conference has heard some medical personnel who worked on the night of the first Bali Bombing a decade ago are still traumatised by what they experienced.

Former Australian of the Year, Fiona Wood, who worked at the Royal Perth Hospital when the bombing occurred on October 12, 2002, says the event still affects her emotionally.

Professor Wood told the War and Disaster 2012 conference in Darwin that she thought she was over the trauma of what she had seen 10 years ago, but later learned that perhaps she wasn't.

She says when she recently heard a survivor of the bombing talk she found herself crying.

The Royal Perth Hospital treated 28 of the victims of the bombing.

The conference in Darwin is being held ahead of the 10th anniversary of the Bali Bombing next Friday.
