Firefighters have contained a bushfire that threatened homes in the Gold Coast hinterland.

Firefighters have contained a blaze that threatened homes in the Gold Coast hinterland.

A bushfire warning for residents in and around Austinville was issued on Sunday morning as a large grassfire burned on Austinville Road.

The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service said on Sunday night that the fire had been brought under control and was burning safely within containment lines.

A spokeswoman said 12 fire crews had fought the blaze during the day, backburning and putting in firebreaks to protect homes.

The fire was being monitored overnight and was not expected to again pose a threat, but residents have been warned to remain alert.
