Australian squash ace Cameron Pilley has won his opening match at the prestigious US Open in Philadelphia.

Australian No.1 Cameron Pilley is safely through to the second round of the $US185,000 ($A181,450) US Open squash championship in Philadelphia.

Pilley only needed half an hour to dispatch South African qualifier Stephen Coppinger 11-0 11-5 11-5 to book a clash with the eighth-seeded Egyptian Mohamed El Shorbagy on Tuesday (AEST).

Fellow Australians Ryan Cuskelly and Matt Karwalski have fallen one win short of qualifying for the main draw.

Australian women's No.1 Kasey Brown, who shocked world No.1 Nicol David and the then-fourth-ranked Madeline Perry en route to last year's final, opens her campaign on Tuesday against Hong Kong's sixth seed Annie Au.

Rachael Grinham launches her title bid against third-seed Englishwoman Jenny Duncalf.
