Bernard Tomic is out of the Swiss Indoors tennis tournament after another first-round loss, but fellow Australian Matthew Ebden has won his match.

Bernard Tomic has been badly beaten in the first round for a third straight tournament, with the Australian No.1 shunted out of the Swiss Indoors 6-0 6-2 by Mikhail Youzhny.

Tomic, who has just turned 20, has not won a match since the second round in Bangkok one month ago after losing early in Tokyo and Shanghai.

The 48th-ranked Tomic lost serve five times in Tuesday's rout and managed only one ace as the experienced Russian sixth seed took just 56 minutes to wrap up his ticket to the second round.

Matthew Ebden however saved the day for Aussie pride with his defeat of Romanian Victor Hanescu 6-3 7-6 (7-3).

Ebden, ranked 115, never faced a break point against the lucky loser from qualifying as he won in just under 90 minutes.

The Australian will have a chance for revenge on Friday as he faces Tomic's conqueror Youzhny.

In other matches, Russia's Nikolay Davydenko edged out fourth seed Stanislas Wawrinka 7-6 (9-7) 7-6 (7-3), Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov upset eighth-seeded Serb Viktor Troicki 6-3 6-2 and Brian Baker of the United States beat Czech Radek Stepanek 2-6 7-6 (7-5) 6-3.

Marco Chiudinelli of Switzerland joined childhood friend Roger Federer in the second round, beating Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 5-7 6-3 6-4 while South Africa's Kevin Anderson downed Finland's Jarkko Nieminen 7-6 (7-4) 6-3.

Federer plays his first match on Wednesday.
