Prime Minister Julia Gillard says independent MP Craig Thomson, who is facing inquiries from police, is entitled to vote as he wishes.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard says independent MP Craig Thomson is entitled to vote as he sees fit.

The former Labor MP's house and electorate office were raided by NSW police on Wednesday, as part of a Victorian police probe into the alleged defrauding of Health Services Union funds.

Mr Thomson, a former national secretary of the HSU who also faces a Federal Court case brought by Fair Work Australia, denies any wrongdoing.

The opposition has said the Gillard Labor government should not accept Mr Thomson's "tainted" vote in parliament, which resumes on Monday.

Ms Gillard told reporters in the South Australian town of Goolwa on Friday that nothing had changed.

"Craig Thomson, as the member for Dobell, is entitled to vote in the federal parliament," she said.

"So nothing has changed on that."

The issue about people voting in federal parliament had long been the subject of discussion, Ms Gillard said.

"Mr Thomson is entitled to vote on behalf of his community in federal parliament."
