Girl's murder trial may have 200 witnesses

As many as 200 witnesses may be called to testify at the trial of the woman accused of murdering six-year-old Kiesha Weippeart.

The trial of Kristi Anne Abrahams, who is accused of murdering her six-year-old daughter, Kiesha Weippeart, could hear evidence from up to 200 witnesses, a court has been told.

Abrahams, 29, from Mt Druitt, appeared in the NSW Supreme Court on Friday, where she was not required to enter a plea.

She is due to face trial on June 17 next year charged with murdering the girl, who was reported missing from her home at Mt Druitt, in western Sydney, on August 1, 2010.

The charge was laid after human remains were discovered in bushland at Mt Druitt eight months later in April 2011 - on what would have been Kiesha's seventh birthday.

Angus Webb, representing Abrahams, said the eight-week trial currently has "a couple of hundred witnesses" lined up.

"That encompasses the matter taking some time," Mr Webb said, adding that not all the witnesses might be required.

Justice Megan Latham adjourned the matter to February 1 when Abrahams would be expected to enter a plea.

During the brief hearing, Abrahams could be seen speaking with her co-accused in the dock, who cannot be named for legal reasons.
