Meares wins Women's Health award

Cyclist Anna Meares has won the Women's Health sports woman of the year award, with fellow Olympic gold medallist Sally Pearson winning moment of the year.

Cyclist Anna Meares has trumped fellow Olympic gold medallist Sally Pearson to win the Women's Health magazine sports woman of the year award.

But Pearson's hurdles victory at the London Olympics was voted ahead of Meares' cycling sprint gold medal as the moment of year.

The Women's Health I Support Women In Sport awards were announced on Tuesday night in Sydney with Meares saying she was "blown away" to win sports woman of the year.

"It shows me that I have been able to reach so many people through both my actions and my words and by doing that I know I have done a good job," she said.

Pearson's 100m hurdles win at the London Olympics was voted moment of the year, with eight-time Paralympic gold medallist Jacqueline Freney winning the prime minister's woman in sport award.

Netball's Melbourne Vixens won the A-Team of the year award while basketballer Lauren Jackson was acclaimed with the Leadership Legend gong.
