A bushfire in Western Australia has broken containment lines and is threatening lives and homes.

A bushfire in Western Australia has broken containment lines and is threatening lives and homes.

Authorities have issued a watch and act alert for people in Kingia Road in the eastern part of Wundowie in the Shire of Northam, 97km northeast of Perth.

The blaze was first reported at 2.30pm (WST) on December 23 but the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) said the flames reignited on Monday and jumped containment lines.

"There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is approaching the area and conditions are changing," the DFES said.

"You need to leave or get ready to actively defend." Burning embers are likely to be blown around homes and spot fires are starting up to 100m ahead of the fire, meaning homes on Kingia Road may be threatened by fire, the DFES said.

Residents have been warned to close all doors and windows, and turn off evaporative air conditioners, but keep water running through the system if possible.

A relocation point has been set up at Wundowie Oval. The bushfire has currently burnt through five hectares.
