Blampied fire brought under control in Vic
Firefighters have managed to contain a grassfire in the Blampied area in central Victoria.
A grassfire near Blampied in central Victoria has been contained.
The fire started on Friday afternoon about 4.5km northwest of Blampied, which is about 120km northwest of Melbourne, and was initially burning about 500 hectares.
The CFA issued an emergency warning just after 3pm (AEDT) for the towns of Kangaroo Hills, Kingston, Leonards Hill, Mount Prospect, Sailors Falls and Muskvale but it has now been downgraded to a watch and act alert.
CFA operations officer David Harris said the fire had been quite difficult to contain but firefighters had been successful.
The fire started close to a camp with about 100 children but all were OK and with firefighters, Mr Harris said.
The fire is now about 100 hectares in size.
A watch and act alert is in place for Daylesford, Hepburn, Kangaroo Hills, Kidds Gully, Kooroocheang, Mount Prospect, Sailors Falls, Eganstown, Hepburn Springs, Langdons Hill, Musk Vale, Bryces Flat, Blampied and Basalt.
A wind change is expected within the next two hours, which may cause the fire to change direction towards Bryces Flat, Hepburn Springs and Kooroocheang, the CFA says.
