Controversial Dutch MP Geert Wilders was given a standing ovation by a crowd in Melbourne at his first speech on Islam in Australia.

Controversial Dutch MP Geert Wilders received two standing ovations in Melbourne during an hour-long speech in which he depicted a grim future for Australia under the rule of Islamic law.

Several hundred people who attended the speech were confronted by a large group of vocal protesters and some were pushed to the ground as they tried to enter the hall at Somerton to hear the Dutchman, who has round-the-clock protection.

Wilders has previously made denigrating statements about the prophet of the world's 1.5 billion Muslims.

He said Europe's capitals were being changed by mass migration from Islamic countries and warned the same thing could happen to Australia.

"Find and elect politicians who are not afraid to tell the truth about Islam," he said on Tuesday.

He also said there should be an end to the building of mosques in Australia.

"It's time to stop being tolerant to the intolerant and say no to building more mosques - enough is enough".

While the Islamic Council of Victoria is concerned the speech may incite violence, Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu said Mr Wilders was wrong and there was clear evidence multiculturalism was a positive for Australian society.

Mr Wilders, the founder and leader of the Dutch Freedom Party which holds 15 seats in the Dutch parliament, was due to speak in Perth but that has been cancelled.

He told the audience on Tuesday night that WA Premier Colin Barnett had told him he would not be welcome in Western Australia.

Mr Wilders said he had wondered how many other people had been banned from WA and googled it to find out.

"Only two items popped up, me and US nuclear base," he said.

The host of the tour, the Q Society, said it was forced to call off the Perth date because it was unable to find a venue to host Mr Wilders.

His Melbourne venue on Tuesday night was meant to be a secret but it did not deter protesters.

Geert couldn't locate a venue to speak at in Perth. Why is he blaming Colin Barnett?

Islam a religion or a culture

Geert Wilders is correct in his view Islam has no place in Australian society On the one hand it declares it's self a religion but does not act like one with its jihads its intolerance of non-believers and double standards in its own treatment of women . Then it states it is a culture and this is the means by which it has tried to get Learning from One and Other integrated into the National Schools Curriculum .Teaching Islam in all schools no mater what religion.

To those who believe Islam is the blame for the destruction of Australian society

Jakob - from Sydney , 3 months ago

One has to look at what most people do as most blame all the problems on the poor those on welfare big families and refugees Look around and answer me this did our forefathers die to have Australians destroy the family unit abort their children change partners more then socks (High STIs) abuse alcohol and use heavy drugs, this self exstinting behavior is what is cause of the destruction of society Many of our forefathers would be rolling in their grave to see what Austraila is like today

No sharia for Australia

This is not about racism (islam is not a race - duh...) and not about restricting the freedom of religion (it's an ideology), this is about keeping Australia secular and united. Islam and multiculturalism don't go together. All the other immigrants are happy to integrate and embrace the Western values of Australia. But not muslims! They segregate themselves in no-go zones, they wear burqas as if to say "keep away, I've no business with you", they call the rest of infidels - we all go to hell!

The problem these days is that courtesy, manners, respect has been replaced by boorish behaviour, filthy language, racism and no respect for anyone or anything and this is across all areas of Australian society. Actually I find that most newer migrant Australians have better manners and respect for elders than many born and bred locals.
