Mr Lex Lasry, lawyer for convicted Australian drug trafficker Nguyen Toung Van says he will be executed in Singapore on December 2.

Nguyen was caught at Changi airport in Singapore in 2002 with 396 grams of heroin.

Mr Lasry says a letter from the Singapore government confirming the execution date was sent to Nguyen’s mother, Kim Nguyen.

The letter says 25 year old Van Nguyen will be executed on the 2nd of December, and can have family visits from three days prior.

Mr Lasry, admits the situation now looks desperate for his client.

“There's something fairly confronting about actually having a date fixed by the government who's going to execute your client” he said.

The letter came as Prime Minister John Howard embarked on some last minute lobbying of his Singaporean counterpart.

Mr Howard, who is attending the annual APEC forum in Korea, pressed the special circumstances of drug trafficker Nguyen Tuong Van when he met Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

However the attempt to win clemency appear to have been unsuccessful with Mr Howard later expressing disappointment that Singapore did not reveal the December 2 execution date at the meeting.

Reach out campaign

With time running out supporters of Nguyen are due to launch a public display of a 'Reach Out' campaign tomorrow at Melbourne's State Library in Swanston Street.

Thousands of hand-shaped notes about Nguyen's case, to be presented to the Singapore government in coming days, will be displayed at the library, with a launch by Victorian Attorney-General Rob Hulls.
