A 21-year-old Brisbane woman has died after being attacked by a
shark in Queensland's south-east.
Police say the woman from McDowall in Brisbane's north was scuba diving off Amity Point on North Stradbroke Island
when the attack occurred at 5.15pm.
Witnesses says she was in waist-deep water close to the fishing village's shoreline.
The woman sustained severe arm, leg and torso injuries.
She was airlifted to the Princess Alexander Hospital where she died.
Water police are hunting for the shark.
It is not known what type of shark attacked the woman, but the Grey Nurse which is considered dangerous to humans if provoked is commonly seen in waters where the woman was mauled.
