Mr Berlusconi, who is contesting general elections in April, told supporters at a dinner that he is the Jesus Christ of politics.
"I am a patient victim. I put up with everyone. I sacrifice myself for everyone," he said.
This comes after comments made last Friday that Mr Berlusconi could think of only one man who has achieved more than him as a leader.
Speaking on a late-night talk show, the leader described his administration in superlatives.
"Only Napoleon did more," he said.
"But I am definitely taller."
His comments have been met with scorn by his coalition partners and commentarists.
Leftist politician Giuseppe Giulietti joked that he was not sure that "God the Father and the rest of Jesus' family did not take this very well," according to an AFP report.
Communist parliamentarian Marco Rizzo called it a "grotesque comparison".
Cartoonists have lampooned the prime minister, depicting him as Napoleon and making fun of Mr Berlusconi's own short stature.
"Berlusconi like Napoleon?" said opposition MP Alfonso Pecoraro Scanio.
"Then the next elections will be his Waterloo."
Italy heads to the polls on April 9, and polls show Mr Berlusconi trailing the centre-left opposition.
