The man, unshaven and clad in a black evening gown, fishnet stockings, calf-high boots and a black wig robbed the petrol station early on Monday morning, and stuffed US$290 in cash into a matching black evening purse.
But less than an hour after the robbery, a sharp-eyed police officer spotted a black Saab with fishnet pantyhose hanging from the front driver's side door and dragging on the ground.
The car was pulled over and a 26-year-old man was arrested and booked for investigation of armed robbery.
Local police officer Lieutenant Phil Penko said a plastic replica handgun was allegedly found inside his purse.
"I've been with the department for 22 years, and this is the first time I've heard of this happening anywhere here," Lt. Penko said.
