The Australia-Israel Jewish Affairs Council says Kadima's victory in Israel's election shows that the Israeli people are not prepared to wait for much longer for a negotiated peace settlement.
The Kadima party has promised to unilaterally set Israel's boundaries within four years, if it cannot negotiate an agreement with the new Palestinian government led by Hamas.
The executive director of the Jewish Affairs Council, Colin Rubenstein, says Israelis have lost hope in international efforts for peace, and don't think they can reach agreement with Hamas.
"This reflects the view of the Israeli people that they can't wait for the Palestinians to mature to be a viable negotiating partner.
"I think Israelis on both the left and the right are disappointed and disillusioned.
"Israel has to seize the initiative."
