The Australian bureau of Meteorology warns cyclone Glenda still poses a threat to Western Australia's Pilbara region.
The Bureau's Carolyn Bojarski says some effects of the cyclone might be felt in Perth over the weekend.
The cyclone has been downgraded as it moves southwest of Onslow, located 14-hundred kilometres north of Perth.
But Ms Bojarski says the cyclone still brings destructive winds.
"Cyclone Glenda crossed the coast near Onslow last night as a severe tropical cyclone category four. "
She says, "Onslow recorded mean wind speed up to a 115 kilometres per hour with a wind gust unto a 156 kilometres per hour. For Mardie reached a little bit higher than that, with a wind gust of 180 kilometres per hour."
Ms Bojarski says the cyclone does not look like it will hit Perth directly, although it is moving towards the coast.
