Memorial services have been held in Australia and in Indonesia for the nine Australians killed in the Sea King helicopter crash on the Indonesian island of Nias a year ago.
Family members of the Navy and Air Force victims have attended a ceremony on Nias Island.
Meanwhile, a memorial service for the defence forces personnel who died during a mercy mission to the earthquake-hit island of Nias has also been held in Canberra.
And a Garden Memorial Wall has been unveiled in honour of such victims in Sydney.
Defence Minister Brendan Nelson says today has represented an opportunity to honour the commitement and dedication of the victims who lost their lives to help others.
He has also defended the continued use of the helicopters in the Defence Force, saying he will move to implement all the recommendations by the Board of Inquiry into the crash after it has presented its report at the end of June.
