The Australian Multicultural Foundation is launching a new series of books designed to promote cultural awareness among primary school children.
The Harmony and Understanding series examines issues like religion and cultural traditions through stories about real people.
The foundation's executive director, Hass Dellal, says the books have been developed in consultation with local communities.
"There seemed to be a lack of books within schools that were actually current and that captured the experiences of recent migrants who have successfully settled or look at traditions and values passed on through the generations throughout various communities.
"But I also I think what they were wanting was something that was relevant to today and was more in keeping with the times."
