A court in Indonesia has sentenced a former humanitarian activist to four years in jail, for assisting Islamic extremists linked to the 2004 bombing outside the Australian embassy in Jakarta.

28-year-old Dhany Chandra was found guilty in the South Jakarta district court of withholding information, and providing assistance to terrorists.

The court found that Chandra was visited by Purnama Putra, who faces a death sentence for his alleged involvement in the embassy bombing, and Muhammad Syaifuddin, who is detained in the Philippines.

The pair allegedly left Chandra with a bag in September 2004, which he later found contained home-made bombs and detonators, but he failed to inform the authorities.
