The diplomatic row between Australia and Indonesia is deepening, with Jakarta announcing it is reviewing a migration-cooperation agreement with Australia.

The Indonesian president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, says the agreement on people-trafficking and illegal migration will be reviewed, after Australia decided to grant temporary visas to 42 Papuans who arrived on Cape York last month.

Mr Yudhoyono says the relationship between the two countries is entering a difficult stage but has the potential to improve again.

"Indonesia will not tolerate elements in any country, including Australia, if they clearly support or become involved in the separatist movement in Papua," he said.

"This is Indonesia's bottom line, and I'm sure Australia will give its full support."

Last month, Indonesia recalled its ambassador to Australia over the visa decision.
