Nominations for the 2006 ALMA Awards, which honour artistic achievement by Hispanics in music, television and film have been announced in the United States, with comedian George Lopez, director Robert Rodriguez and singer Shakira among those up for an award.

Singer Marc Anthony and actor Andy Garcia will receive special recognition at the Awards, the National Council of La Raza said.

The National Council of La Raza created the ALMA Awards in 1995 to promote positive images of Hispanics in the entertainment industry.

Awards will be presented in 15 categories at a ceremony hosted by Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria, in early May.
