Federal Arts Minister Rod Kemp says the government will begin consulting with relevant agencies and peak bodies and the National Indigenous Council and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission soon.

"I plan to meet with representatives from the industry to hear what they have to say," Mr Kemp said.

"Reputable art dealers and community art centres look after the interests of their artists, but increasing sales and higher prices encourage privateers and dodgy operators to move in and exploit vulnerable artists," he added.
