Today is the deadline for 100-thousand Italian-Australians eligible to vote in Italy's national elections to get their postal ballots in to their closest Italian consulate.

Italians living outside Italy are voting in the country's national elections for the first time ever.

Seventeen overseas-based candidates, mainly from Australia, are hoping to be elected to one seat in Italy's lower house and one in the upper house.

The seats will represent a constituency that covers Oceania, Asia and Africa.
