The Indonesian embassy in Canberra has welcomed the Prime Minister John Howard's commitment to review its system for granting protection to Papuan asylum seekers.
The Prime Minister, John Howard says the government will look at the visa process, following Indonesian protests at Australia's decision to grant asylum to 42 Papuan refugees.
The embassy says Indonesia would welcome the move, and Jakarta will respond very positively.
A spokesman says Indonesia wants to be consulted when claims of genocide are made against the nation.
Mr HOWARD also says the government will continue to abide by its international obligations to asylum seekers.
