The Federal Greens Senator, Bob Brown, says the Federal Government's plans to stop Papuan asylum seekers from entering Australia, will force them under "house arrest" in their own country.
The comments follow an announcement from Prime Minister John Howard earlier this week, saying he won't encourage separatism in Indonesia.
But Senator Brown says Labor and the Howard government's policy on Indonesia is in contrast to what they advocate in Iraq.
"We need an adherence which is across the board, so the principles of freedom and democracy in this country. But it's selective by both the big parties."
"They want it in Iraq, they don't want it in our neighbourhood. And it's simply incongruous, and leaves our country looking like it's selective when it comes to human rights."
