The Nashville Tennessean newspaper reported that homes had been spun off their foundations and trees snapped in two by the twisters.

An estimated 160 houses were damaged or destroyed.

It's the second time in a week that the state has been hit by violent storms.

Last Sunday, a tornado killed 24 people in the west of Tennessee.
