The government says it'll look at ways to improve border control and handle asylum seekers as it tries to repair relations with Indonesia in the wake of the Papuan visa row.
Foreign Minister Alexander Downer has again spoken to his Indonesian counterpart, Hassan Wirajuda, to try and mend relations.
Ties with Indonesia have been strained after the government last month granted temporary protection visas to 42 Papuans who arrived on Australian shores earlier this year.
The Foreign Minister says he can't simply overturn asylum applications in order to restore relations between the two countries, but progress is being made
