The Customs Minister says Australia and Indonesia need to work together to ensure border patrols are effective and identify some asylum seekers

Australia has granted temporary protection visas to 42 people from the Indonesian province of Papua, sparking a diplomatic row between the two countries.

The turmoil has prompted a review of the immigration processes.

The Customs Minister, Chris Ellison says Australia needs Indonesia's co-operation in some cases.

He says it will help identify genuine asylum seekers and that they're from Indonesia.
