There are calls for the federal government to spend more on education support for deaf children.

Deaf Children Australia says the government promotes inclusive education for deaf students but is failing to back it up with specialist assistance.

More than eight out of ten deaf children now attend mainstream schools, but D-C-A's Chief Executive, Da,ien LacyY, says their education is suffering.

"A recent study has indicated that approximately 60 per cent of those children that are out in integrated settings are having some social or personal disadvantage."

"So the stress is on being out there on your own with inadequate support leading to wellbeing issues for young people, and that's a cost to all of us."
