The Refugee Council of Australia has expressed concern over the Government's proposed revision of the Immigration Department's decision making process for asylum seekers.
The Council's President, John Gibson, has dismissed the idea of Indonesia being consulted about the identities of any future asylum seekers from the province of Papua as political interference.
"We have our international obligations, they should be adhered to strictly."
"All the proposals that have been floated will result in breaching of obligations."
"We should be determining whether people deserve our protection without foreign state, no matter how much we want to maintain our relationships with her, without interference by that state."
