An Australian-born doctor, jailed for eight months after refusing to serve with the Royal Air Force in Iraq, says he still feels his actions are justified.
A military court martial found Flight Lieutenant Malcolm Kendall-Smith guilty of refusing orders issued to him in his role as a doctor.
The medic, who now has dual British-New Zealand citizenship, says the invasion of Iraq in March 2003 was an illegal act.
Dr Kendall-Smith's solicitor, Justin Houston, says his client will appeal against both the verdict.
"Dr Kendall-Smith has give very clear and unambiguous instructions to lodge an appeal with all haste. In Dr Kendall-Smith's own words, I quote, "I have a very long way yet to travel, and I have great deal of further work yet to do and I will now concentrate my efforts on that task."
