As Christians around the world celebrate one of their religion's holiest days, hundreds of people have gathered across the country for Easter Sunday marches.

Each capital city held a march organised by a coalition of church organisations.

The national co-ordinator, Mal Garvin, says the focus is on reconciliation, with representatives from countries as diverse as Chile, India and Ethiopia taking part.

Mr Garvin says non-Christian migrant communities, like the Sudanese in Adelaide, Chinese in Sydney, and Jamaicans in Melbourne, are also fully involved in the march.

He says: "I think they are enjoying coming into the centre of the city on an easter sunday with other people who are Aussies and finding their way into the Aussie story without losing their own national tradition and its story."
