About 80 protesters gathered in Sydney this afternoon in front of the Prime Minister's residence to protest on a range of issues.

They blame Mr Howard for the mistreatment of asylum seekers, his decision to hamper the immigration process for West Papuan refugees and the Wheat Board scandal.

The Refugee Action Coalition spokesman, Mark Goudkamp, says Easter has become a symbol for the refugee movement ever since the Woomera protests of 2002.

Mr Goudkamp says the speakers included refugee advocates, anti-war movement spokesmen, journalists, Buddhist and Muslim representatives and priests.

He says: "Today we have assembled under the Harbour Bridge and marched on the Prime Minister's Sydney residence at Kirribilli House. We've had a very spirited protest. We've just had a bit of street theatre and delivered the Refugee Convention to the gates of Kirribilli House to remind John Howard what the Refugee Convention means, and that it actually is still meaningful and that Australia should comply with it."
